Visitors

Friendly visitors are always welcome to come watch a class, or train with us. We welcome everyone, including prospective new students, visitors to the Colorado Springs area, and any local Aikidoka that want to come practice Iwama-Ryu Aikido with us. If you’re just curious and want to see what Aikido is all about, you’re welcome to stop in as well! Appointments aren’t necessary. Sometimes we have cookies!

Whether you’re new to town or you’re already living in the area, if you’re looking to practice Aikido, we make a pretty good first stop. We’re one of two Aikikai affiliated dojos in town, and we’re the only dojo teaching Traditional, or Iwama-Ryu Aikido in the Colorado Springs area. We’re affiliated with the California Aikido Association (Division 1).

Prospective New Students

If you’re brand new to Aikido, and you’d like to visit us, we invite you to stop by anytime we’re open. If you arrive before class starts, we’ll greet you and be happy to help answer any questions you might have. If you arrive, and class has already started, come on in, and find a comfortable spot to sit quietly. Either the instructor or a senior student will assist you at our first available opportunity.

Class Structure

Our classes are normally two hours long, with a short break at the halfway point. We normally tailor class content based on who is in class. Typically we warm up for about 15 minutes, followed by about 90 minutes of training. We typically end with 15-30 minutes of weapons training.

Experienced Aikido Students

We welcome experienced Aikidoka to visit us anytime. Our classes are open to everyone! Whether you are a short term visitor looking for a place to practice for a few days, or you have some experience practicing Aikido but you’re looking to try out Iwama-Ryu Aikido, you are welcome at our dojo anytime! If you are a local Aikidoka, and you want to work on Iwama Weapons, feel free to contact us about our Monthly Outdoor Weapons Class. We also periodically teach weapons focused classes and we tend to teach weapons during almost every normal class. Check out our event calendar for our specific training focus during a given class.

Training

If you’re a visitor who is planning to train with us please arrive at least 15 minutes before class to fill out a training waiver and information form. A traditional mat fee of 10.00 per class is requested from visitors. Mat fees may be paid either via cash or check, or a donation may be made via the PayPal button on our Fees Page. If you’re planning on training with us for longer than a week, please let us know so we can discuss alternative financial arrangements.
